While at MUSC, he received numerous awards, including induction into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society in 1990. That same year, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. The American Student Dental Association named Dr. Mishkin Outstanding Clinical Professor for 1991-1992. In 1995 he was nominated for the Health Science Foundation Teaching Excellence Award, MUSC. Dr. Mishkin became a Fellow in the American College of Dentists in 1993. He proudly served as the SNDA (Student National Dental Association) sponsor for many years. He was a member of the Southern Academy of Periodontology from 1983-2004 and served on the Executive Council from 1993-2000. Dr. Mishkin was also a member of the American Academy of Periodontology from 1974-2005. Dr. Mishkin retired from the College of Dental Medicine in 2004 as Professor Emeritus, but continued mentoring and contributing to the Periodontics Program until the time of his death. Also during his retirement, Dr. Mishkin volunteered with Sea Island Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed working with fellow volunteers. Dr. Mishkin is survived by his wife, Jenny; daughter Devon Mishkin Shealy and her husband Adam; and daughter Erin Beth Mishkin and her fiance; Steve Schultze. He was a special "Deda" to grandchildren Langdon Grace and William Wells Shealy. He is also survived by two sisters and their families, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his life-long friends, Dr. Andrew Davis and Louis Chambers. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, July 27 at noon at St. Luke's Chapel on the MUSC campus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William O.
